Understanding Grayson County Releases
A release is the end of one custody event, not always the end of all government custody. The Grayson County Detention Center records local booking and movement events. Its three published locations operate under elected County Jailer Jason Woosley, not the sheriff. The main jail also houses people connected to the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDOC), the U.S. Marshals Service, the Bureau of Prisons, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That mix matters. Someone can leave the public Grayson County list and enter another system without becoming free in the community.
Local release types include bond, recognizance, a court-ordered discharge, sentence completion, dismissal, acquittal, or transfer. A state prisoner may leave physical confinement on parole or mandatory reentry supervision while remaining under KDOC authority. Probation can start without a prison release. A detainer, which is another agency's request to keep or receive a person, may also prevent community release after one case ends.
- Discharge
- An official end to a custody or supervision status.
- Time served
- Completion of the confinement required by the court.
- Transfer
- Movement to another facility or agency, not release to the community.
- Parole
- Conditional community release from a prison sentence.
Grayson County Release Types
The recorded event should be quoted exactly. A bond amount only shows what was ordered; it does not prove payment or physical release. Likewise, a charge disposition is not the jail-door event. These distinctions prevent a common error when checking Grayson County released inmates.
| Recorded path | Meaning | Best next check |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or ROR | Release may follow satisfaction of the court's terms. | GCDC transaction and court order |
| Sentence served | The local term reached its recorded end. | Release entry and sentence record |
| Parole or reentry supervision | Physical prison custody ended, but supervision continues. | KOOL and District 5 |
| Transfer | Another jail, KDOC, USMS, BOP, or ICE received the person. | Receiving-system locator |
| Dismissal or acquittal | A case ended without conviction on that charge. | Court order plus jail entry |
Note: A recorded death is not a community release and should remain a distinct disposition.
Grayson County Release Record Fields
A useful Grayson County release record ties one person to one period of confinement. Ask for existing records, such as the booking sheet or jail-management transaction, rather than asking staff to create a new list. The Combined Public Communications roster lacks the decisive release fields.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name and booking number | The identity and exact jail episode |
| Booking date and time | When the custody episode began |
| Release date and time | When the local episode ended |
| Release type or disposition | The recorded basis for release or movement |
| Receiving agency or destination | Whether the event was a transfer |
| Hold or detainer | Whether another authority affected release |
| Booking photograph | An image tied to that booking, if releasable |
Older jail and court records may remain after a web listing vanishes. Yet a lawful expungement, an authorized retention schedule, or an indexing issue can change public access. A missing result is therefore not proof that no booking occurred.
Request Grayson County Release Records
GCDC is the first custodian for its booking and release entries. A county-specific Kentucky Attorney General decision, 25-ORD-171, shows why request formalities matter here. A pseudonymous request can be denied. Use a signed request, print the real name clearly, state Kentucky-resident qualification, and describe existing records with enough detail to locate them.
- Identify the person, booking date range, and facility.
- Ask for the booking sheet, release date and time, release disposition, destination, holds, and associated photograph.
- Send the signed request to GCDC and keep a copy.
- If no record is held, ask which retention schedule applies rather than asking staff to reconstruct it.
- Pair the response with the relevant court order or receiving-system record.
KRS 61.872 governs inspection procedures. KRS 61.880 generally requires a determination within five business days and an explanation for denial. KRS 61.874 addresses copies and reasonable reproduction charges. No GCDC booking-photo price or release-record fee was published in the research, so none should be assumed.
Grayson County Record Access Limits
Kentucky's open-record process provides access to existing public records, but it does not require GCDC to answer a new questionnaire or compile a custom release list that the jail does not already keep. A narrow request is more useful. Give the full name, an approximate booking range, the location, and the exact record fields sought. If the goal is to distinguish release from transfer, request the existing release or movement transaction and any recorded receiving agency.
Some information can lawfully be withheld. KRS 61.878 lists exemptions, while court sealing, expungement, juvenile restrictions, and valid security concerns may also affect access. A custodian should identify the legal basis for a denial and release any reasonably separable public part when the law requires it. Ask what was withheld and under which authority rather than filling a gap with an assumption.
Online display and government retention are different. CPC draws a current roster from replaceable data files, and no published rule says how fast a released entry disappears. The underlying record may remain after its public link and image vanish. Conversely, an authorized schedule may permit destruction, and an expungement can require qualifying public material to be removed. Ask GCDC which schedule covers the record if staff says it is no longer held.
Identity also needs care. Two people can share a name, and one person can have several bookings. Match the booking number, dates, age or date of birth, photograph when lawful, and court case before joining records. Arrest is not conviction. Release is not dismissal. A transfer is not freedom. Those distinctions make a Grayson County release finding far more reliable.
Grayson County Bond Release Proof
GCDC's bond information gives an unusually detailed local split. The jail accepts District and Circuit release-on-recognizance bonds and certain after-hours cash bonds. Surety and partially secured bonds usually route through the Circuit Clerk, subject to any approved after-hours handling. Those routes explain where paperwork may be found, but the order and the physical event remain separate facts.
Confirm a bond release with both records. The court order shows legal authority. The jail transaction supplies the actual date, time, and disposition. Never infer that bond was posted merely because the current charge table shows an amount.
Grayson County Property After Release
GCDC's published property rule creates a concrete deadline. Property left behind must be mailed or collected within 30 days after release or it will be destroyed. The page does not publish special pickup hours for former detainees. Call the relevant location first and confirm identity requirements before traveling.
The jail also publishes weekender, work-release, nursing, and possible drug-test charges. These are custody or program charges, not an open-record fee and not a universal release charge. Deposits may also be applied to old debt under the published policy. Keep these categories distinct when reading an account.
Grayson County Court Release Orders
The Grayson Circuit Court Clerk holds Circuit, Family, and District case records at 500 Carroll Gibson Boulevard in Leitchfield. The clerk can locate bond, dismissal, judgment, probation, revocation, or discharge orders. Some older files may be held off site, and the clerk can supply facility and locator numbers for stored public records.
Official local pages conflict on the District criminal day. Kentucky's current court page says Wednesday at 9 a.m., while a jail services page has said Thursday. Use the Court of Justice page and call 270-259-3040 before relying on a schedule. The legal order still may not show the exact jail exit time or a second agency's hold, so pair it with the GCDC entry.
Grayson County Record Expungement
Kentucky Court of Justice expungement information explains why a once-public case or image may disappear. Qualifying acquittals and dismissals with prejudice on or after July 15, 2020 can be automatically expunged after 30 days under KRS 431.076. Other eligible matters use different waiting periods and procedures. The Grayson Circuit Clerk is the local filing point after the required AOC certification when a petition is necessary.
Expungement distribution can reach the arresting agency and local jail. It should never be described as proof that the event did not occur. It changes legal public access to qualifying records.
Find Grayson County Released Inmates
Start with a full name, date of birth or age, booking date, and any booking, PID, DOC, BOP, or A-number. Then choose the system that matches the custody type. A broad name-only match is weak evidence.
- Use GCDC's official roster handoff. A listing means currently shown, not released.
- If absent, call the applicable jail location and ask whether the event was release or transfer.
- Check Kentucky VINE for a dated not-in-custody result while preserving the exact event label.
- Read the Grayson court order that explains the legal basis.
- For a state-sentenced person, check KOOL and KDOC Daily Releases.
- When federal or immigration custody is plausible, check BOP or ICE and obtain agency or court confirmation.
- Request the existing jail entry for a precise date, time, reason, or destination.
The CPC roster is titled “Currently Booked Inmates.” Disappearance is a prompt to investigate, not proof of release.
Grayson County KOOL Release Search
Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, or KOOL, covers KDOC custody and supervision. It can include state inmates housed in county jails, prison inmates, parolees, probationers, and other supervised people. It does not cover every short local booking. Search with minimal reliable fields, then compare identifiers, demographics, photograph, and convictions before opening a result.
| KOOL field | Release use |
|---|---|
| DOC or PID number | Strong identity match |
| Offender and supervision status | Shows custody or community supervision category |
| County of supervision | Can narrow to Grayson |
| Location and location type | Distinguishes prison, jail, and office |
| Projected Release Date From/To | Filters a possible date range |
| Minimum, parole, and maximum dates | Separate sentence milestones that are not interchangeable |
KDOC says KOOL updates daily but warns that information newer than 120 days may not be final. Read current status and location before the dates. A parole status means physical prison custody ended into supervision, not full discharge.
Grayson County Recent Release Limits
Grayson County publishes no official rolling 24-hour or 72-hour release list. The CPC page exposes current photographs, names, ages, and charge details, but no release date, time, reason, destination, or released archive. No official refresh rate or post-release display period is stated. There is also no verified local jail app.
KDOC's Daily Releases archive is the only official date-organized feed found. It covers state/DOC releases on a business-day schedule. It must not be relabeled as all Grayson County jail releases. For a same-day county question, use the jail, VINE, court, and record-request chain described on the Jail Releases: 24 Hours page.
Grayson County Supervision Checks
The Kentucky Parole Board decides parole matters, while KDOC Probation and Parole supervises people in the community. Grayson has a District 5 satellite at 498-5 South Main Street in Leitchfield, phone 270-259-4696. KOOL can show parole, probation, supervision dates, an office, or an absconder marker. An absconder is someone alleged to have stopped complying with supervision contact requirements; the marker is not full discharge and does not alone prove a warrant.
GCDC also reports daily GED teaching and church-supported networks. Those are in-custody preparation programs, not release proof and not a named county reentry office. No official local release transport or post-release intake program was found. The Grayson County probation and parole resource explains the local verification route.
Grayson County VINE Release Alerts
VINELink bridges Kentucky jail and adult corrections records. A current result supplies facility information. A not-in-custody result can supply the release date. Alerts may also concern transfer, escape, or another change, so preserve the event label. Kentucky says one person can have separate local-jail and DOC entries; register on both when both exist.
Federal releases follow different routes. The BOP Inmate Locator covers post-1982 federal records and may show a past release date. Federal pretrial release instead requires the federal order plus GCDC or USMS confirmation. ICE's locator is mainly a current-custody tool. No result can reflect transfer, removal, release, a name mismatch, or a coverage limit.
Grayson County Mixed Custody Transfers
GCDC openly describes partnerships with KDOC, USMS, ICE, and BOP. The official ICE facility page confirms the immigration relationship. Choose the next locator from the destination recorded in the jail entry rather than searching every system as if each had equal coverage.
The jail's 2021 expansion and federal-housing model help explain the mixed population. In 2025, GCDC accepted 123 Bullitt County inmates during flooding. That local event shows how a roster movement can reflect an emergency intercounty transfer with no Grayson arrest and no community release.
Grayson County Release Status Comparison
Each public tool answers a different question. The fastest result is not always the final proof.
| System | What it shows | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| CPC roster | People currently listed at GCDC | Why an absent person left |
| GCDC release entry | Local date, time, type, and destination if recorded | Later status in another system |
| KOOL | KDOC custody or supervision and sentence fields | Every local pretrial release |
| VINE | Operational custody status and dated release events | A permanent historical archive |
| BOP locator | Covered federal custody and release date | USMS pretrial or ICE status |
| ICE ODLS | Qualifying current immigration detention | A complete release archive |
Grayson County Release Facilities
The county detention operation has three public contact points. The main facility at 320 Shaw Station Road handles a mixed local, state, federal, and immigration population. The female facility at 300 Shaw Station Road is part of the same operation. The annex at 203 South Heyser Drive is linked with restricted custody and work-release functions, but work release is not final discharge. KDOC is included as the state system because Kentucky-sentenced people may remain in a county jail.
- GCDC Main Facility: confirm release or the receiving agency.
- GCDC Female Facility: distinguish building movement from community release.
- GCDC Annex Facility: verify the court order and final custody event.
- Kentucky Department of Corrections: use KOOL, Daily Releases, and DOC records for state status.
