Grayson County VINELink Coverage
Kentucky VINE bridges local jail and adult state correctional data. For Grayson County, that makes it useful across the county-jailer operation and KDOC records. Kentucky says the service draws from jail booking systems, prisons, and mental-health facilities, with some juvenile coverage also described by the state. It can report release, transfer, escape, and parole-hearing events. Each event means something different.
When a covered person remains in custody, Kentucky's official VINE description says the inquiry provides the location, address, and phone. When the person is not in custody, it can provide the date released. This is a one-person status and notification system, not a countywide list of everyone who left GCDC today.
GCDC has a mixed population that can include local, state, federal, and immigration custody. VINE can help with covered jail and KDOC entries, but it does not replace BOP, U.S. Marshals, ICE, or court sources. Preserve the exact label shown. A transfer from Grayson County to another agency is not release to the community.
Search a Grayson VINELink Record
Begin with a full or partial name and an identifying number if one is available. A jail or DOC identifier is stronger than a name alone. Keep an age, birth date, booking date, or known facility nearby to separate similar names.
- Open VINELink and select Kentucky.
- Choose Find an Offender.
- Enter a partial name or the jail or DOC identifier. The system requires a name or ID.
- Review the possible matches and compare available identity and custody details.
- Open the correct person's record.
- Read the current status and event type before using any date.
- If an alert is needed, choose Notify Me of Status Changes.
The available VINELink search screen shows the state-selection and person-search route.

Grayson VINELink Release Fields
A result must be read in context. Kentucky's public instructions distinguish the data shown for a current custody record from a not-in-custody result. The identity details available on a specific record can vary, so use every reliable match instead of accepting the first similar name.
| Field or event | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Name or offender identifier | Connects the inquiry to a specific jail or DOC record. |
| Custody status | States whether the covered source reports the person in custody. |
| Facility, address, and phone | Provides the reported location for a current custody result. |
| Release date | Provides a dated result when the covered person is reported not in custody. |
| Transfer event | Shows movement between facilities or agencies, not freedom. |
| Notification type | Identifies the change that caused an alert. |
VINE status is not the same as a court disposition or full sentence discharge. A person can leave physical custody on parole and remain supervised. A detainer can also move someone directly to another authority. For a local release, pair the VINE date with GCDC's release transaction; for a state record, compare KOOL and KDOC.
Register Grayson Release Notifications
Registration can use phone and email, and more than one destination may be entered. Kentucky says it is confidential and anonymous to the incarcerated person. Phone registration adds an acknowledgment step that matters when automated calls begin.
- Open the correct person record and select Notify Me of Status Changes.
- Choose phone and/or email and follow the prompts for each destination.
- For a phone registration, create a familiar four-digit PIN.
- Save the event and contact choices shown in the confirmation process.
- When an automated phone alert arrives, listen to the stated event before responding.
- Enter the four-digit PIN to acknowledge receipt and stop repeat calls.
- Use Edit Your Registration under Kentucky to change details or address a forgotten PIN, or contact KDOC Victim Services.
Telephone-only registration is also available at Kentucky VINE by calling 1-800-511-1670 from a touch-tone phone. The Attorney General's instructions permit as many as two phone numbers. Automated notices may arrive during the day or night, so choose numbers that can receive and acknowledge them.
Note: Registration provides notice of a reported change; it does not create a new official jail, court, or DOC release record.
Grayson VINE PIN and Calls
The PIN is not the person's jail or DOC identifier. It is a four-digit acknowledgment code chosen by the registrant for phone alerts. Entering it tells the automated system that the call was received. Without acknowledgment, VINE can leave a message and continue trying during the applicable notification period.
For a county-jail release, Kentucky's instructions say calls repeat every 30 minutes for up to 24 hours or until the PIN is entered. A state-institution release notice is normally attempted 72 hours before release. Some state events cannot provide that lead time. Parole, an immediate time-credit change, a court-ordered discharge, or escape may generate a notice when the event happens.
- PIN
- The registrant's four-digit code used to confirm a phone alert.
- Release alert
- A notice that the source system reported release or a not-in-custody event.
- Transfer alert
- A notice of movement while custody may continue.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision duty, not merely a facility change.
Listen through the full message. A transfer, parole hearing, escape, and release notice should never be rewritten as the same event.
Two Grayson VINE Registrations
Kentucky's official VINE instructions warn that one person may have separate local-jail and DOC entries. This can occur when legal custody, placement, or data sources change. In Grayson County it is especially relevant because GCDC can hold state inmates while also handling local detainees. Registering on only one record can leave a gap when the other source carries the later event.
Search for and confirm both entries when the person has a local booking and a KDOC record. Then choose Notify Me of Status Changes on each correct record. Do not assume the registrations merge. Keep enough identity detail to distinguish duplicate-looking entries from two different people.
The two alerts may describe different stages. A local transfer notice can mark departure from GCDC, while a DOC notice can later describe parole or state release. Compare their event labels, dates, IDs, and facilities. If they conflict, call GCDC for the local movement record and use KOOL or KDOC for the state status.
Note: Dual registration is appropriate only after both records are matched to the same person with reliable identity details.
Verify Grayson VINE Release Alerts
KDOC documented false release alerts caused by a vendor issue on February 3, 2026. The department posted actual releases during the disruption. That incident provides a concrete reason to treat an automated alert as prompt notice for verification, not as the sole final record.
Use two sources after a significant notice. For a GCDC event, call the applicable detention facility and ask for the existing release or transfer entry. Check the Grayson court file when an order should explain bond, dismissal, or another legal basis. For a state-sentenced person, read KOOL's current status and compare KDOC's release information. The full multi-source route for one named person is available through the Grayson County released inmate search.
A second source can also reveal a transfer that looked like a release, a separate hold, or a status update tied to the other local or DOC entry.
Grayson VINELink Search Limits
VINELink is not a universal locator. It does not provide the BOP release record for a sentenced federal prisoner, and it cannot replace the federal docket or U.S. Marshals confirmation for a federal pretrial detainee. Use the BOP locator once the person is in that system. For immigration custody, ICE's Online Detainee Locator is a current-custody search rather than a release archive.
Kentucky no longer provides VINEcourts. A VINE registration therefore cannot substitute for checking the Grayson Circuit Clerk's court record. Court orders can explain legal authority, while the jail transaction records physical processing. Both may be needed when another agency has a detainer.
Data can also lag or remain incomplete. A missing person may reflect spelling, an unmatched record, source timing, expungement, or lack of system coverage. A current GCDC roster result proves only that the person is displayed as booked. A missing roster name and a missing VINELink match still do not prove release.
| Custody type | Confirmation route |
|---|---|
| Grayson County jail | VINE plus the GCDC release or transfer entry. |
| Kentucky state custody | VINE plus KOOL, KDOC releases, or a DOC record. |
| Federal custody | BOP locator or federal court and U.S. Marshals confirmation. |
| Immigration custody | ICE locator, ERO contact, or immigration documentation. |
